Description: Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Systems and
Technical Operations, the incumbent will work with a team of systems support
staff to ensure that all application services delivered as part of Scholars
Portal (SP) are maintained at a high level of availability. SP is a service of
the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), a consortium of 21
academic libraries across the province. Services provided by Scholars Portal
run under Linux and Windows Server. These services are built on a range of
database management systems (Oracle, MySQL, Postgress, SQL Server) and use two
search engine technologies (Solr/Lucene, MarkLogic). The systems support team
provides operation support for all SP applications as well as technical
support for our development team (Java, XQuery/XML, PHP) and project
librarians.

  
  
Qualifications:

(Minimum)

  
Education:

  
University degree in computer science/information technology.

  
Experience:

  
Four years related experience. Experience with one or more of the following
operating systems: Linux (Red Hat preferred), Windows Server, Sun Solaris;
experience with managing databases and database applications based on my SQL,
Oracle, or SQL Server as well as web-based applications running on Apache and
Tomcat/JBoss; familiar with supporting programmers working in a wide range of
languages (Perl, Java, PHP) and with a wide range of XML technologies such as
XSLT transformation engines, XML parsers, SOAP,Web Services and XQuery; some
experience with managing database search engines/libraries such as Solr/
Lucene highly desirable.

  
Skills:

  
Flexibility, initiative and the ability to work and learn independently.
Excellent communication skills and an ability to communicate technical details
courteously and clearly to non-technical users. Ability to work outside normal
business hours, including evenings and weekends.

  
Other:

Above average diagnostic skills will be required to gather the information
necessary to resolve problems quickly. Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills will be required to keep a large and diverse group of
client sites informed about problems and an ability to communicate technical
details courteously and clearly to non-technical users. Ability to work
outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.

Appointment Type: Budget - Term

Schedule: Full-time

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: 12 -- $62,390 with an annual step progression
to a maximum of $79,787.Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to
determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
