Scholarly Communications Librarian

**About the Position**:  
Western Washington University Libraries seeks an innovative, forward-looking
librarian who will build and promote the Institutional Repository (IR), as
well as further scholarly communication as a strategic priority for Western
Libraries. Reporting to the Director of Scholarly Resources and Collection
Services, this position is a 12-month, tenure track faculty appointment. The
Scholarly Communications Librarian promotes the availability and capacity of
the Institutional Repository (IR) to the university community, faculty,
researchers, and students, and ensures compliance with relevant law and
policy. The ideal candidate will have a background or
experience in scholarly communication and copyright issues. Western Libraries

**About the Department: Western Libraries**  
  
_Position Responsibilities_

  * Develops, implements, and maintains the Libraries' scholarly communication programs and initiatives
  * Works with the Director of Scholarly Resources and library faculty to develop education and outreach related to scholarly communication and to integrate scholarly communication into the library liaison program
  * Manages the daily operation of the IR, including working with IR software, adding and editing content, metadata creation, analyzing usage data, training other library staff in IR functions
  * Coordinates and provides training in support of the IR on campus
  * Creates and updates IR policies, procedures, and other necessary documentation
  * Works with appropriate parties and staff to maintain and develop new functionality for the IR
  * Advises and educates the campus community about authors' rights, faculty use of copyrighted materials, and other copyright issues related to scholarly communication
  * Required Qualifications:
  * Required Qualificaitons (Must be addressed in your cover letter or vita)
  * ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent international degree
  * Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with scholarly communication issues, such as copyright, authors' rights, and open access publishing
  * Demonstrated knowledge of data management and institutional repositories
  * Proven experience with emerging technologies and potential for furthering scholarship and research in this area
  * Ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues
_Preferred Qualifications_

  * Experience in a management/team leadership role
  * Experience with Scholarly Communication in an academic library
  * Experience with digital publishing tools, such as Bepress, Open Journal Systems, DSpace, Fedora
  * Experience with outreach and training activities
  * Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
