Technology Services Librarian & Archivist Bronx Community College New York City Supports the college library with effective teaming in the Technology Services area to continuously improve library technological infrastructure and services ensuring efficient and effective access to digital resources. Is also responsible for the management and administration of the Bronx Community College Library's Archives and Special Collections. Provides in-depth consultation with students and faculty and collaboration for the ongoing improvement of instructional programs and practices. Pursues an active scholarly agenda, performs supervisory duties as needed, and participates in college-and university-wide programs and committees as assigned. Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Technology Services Librarian and Archivist joins a team of the Library's Technology Services staff and also colleagues from Library's Learning Services area in providing students and faculty with exemplary support for efficient access to information resources and services. Position involves direct contact with library users by providing traditional and virtual reference and research assistance outreach to faculty engaged in developing Information Literacy knowledge and skills of students, collaboration with librarians to engage college community in effective use of library services and resources, assessment of needs and promotion of awareness of new information products and services. In consultation with the Chief Librarian, establishes unit policies and procedures and leads planning regarding accessioning, retention, preservation, and use of the resources of the Bronx Community College Library's Archives and Special Collections. Librarians within the City University of New York take active faculty roles, serving on committees and engaging in scholarly research and publication. Perform other duties as assigned. Continuous updating of knowledge and skills is required. All appointments are subject to financial availability. The position is set to begin September 27, 2014. QUALIFICATIONS Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution, with a second graduate degree required. Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution. Preferred qualifications: - Computer Science or Information Systems degree status, minimum BS - Experience with academic library information and web systems - Archival degree status or certification - Experience in academic, research, and special or archives collections - Ability to direct and lead the processing of manuscripts, artifact, photo, and material culture collections with adherence to the Society of American Archivists standards - Experience in developing and implementing plans for maintaining and preserving the Library's collections with the College's Conservator/Preservation Officer - Ability to lead the digitization efforts and evaluate the web presence of the Archives unit - Experience in promoting the use and understanding of the special collections and archives to researchers, students, alumni, University personnel, and the general public - Knowledge of trends and issues in contemporary reference services and user education - Familiarity with the evolving concepts of Information Literacy - Proficiency in use of pedagogical and information technology tools - Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills - Experience developing collaborative working relationships - Commitment to innovative and effective user-centered services - Experience working on department/library/college committees - The successful candidate will show evidence of teamwork, creativity, initiative, and flexibility COMPENSATION CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
