Archives and Rare Books Librarian

McMaster University Library is seeking an energetic,
creative, and self-confident librarian to join the William Ready Division of
Archives and Research Collections. The successful candidate will be
responsible for a full range of archival activities and provision of access to
archival and special collections, and will assist in the management and
ongoing development of the Division's collections.

  
The successful candidate will:

  
 Appraise, arrange and describe archives following accepted professional
standards and practices

 Provide research help in the Division, both in-person and remotely

 Participate in outreach and instruction programs to enhance use of the
Division's collections by the McMaster community

 Participate in managing the Division's collections and in developing tools
and processes for born-digital archives

 Work collaboratively to provide robust and engaging online discovery and
access for the Division's collections, both physical and electronic

 Participate in building and promoting the collections, including occasional
site visits with donors

 Supervise the work of student assistants and volunteers

  
This is a full time continuing appointment reporting to the Associate
University Librarian, Collections. Normally scheduled weekly hours will be
Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm (35 hours/week).

  
The successful candidate must have the following:

  
 A Masters degree in Archival Studies, Library Science, or Information
Science from an ALA-accredited program or its equivalent

 Minimum of 1 year of experience in an archives or special collections
setting

 Knowledge of emerging trends around online access to special collections and
management of digital collections

 Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  
Preferred qualifications include:

  
 Demonstrated project management skills

 Strong analytical and problem solving skills

 A second Master's degree in Humanities/Social Sciences

  
McMaster University Library expects librarians to be active and engaged with
the broader library and research community through both professional service
and professional or scholarly activity.

  
The appointment will be made at the Librarian Level I or II rank with an
annual salary range of:

$48,456 - $78,655 or $52,330 - $86,389 depending on rank. The position is
included in the McMaster University Academic Librarians' Association
bargaining unit. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience. The position includes a competitive and comprehensive benefit
