NDSA Folks, The next NDSA Geospatial Content subgroup call is coming up this Friday, February 21 at 11:00a.m. ET. The call will feature a presentation from Glen McAninch, the Manager of the Technology Analysis & Support Branch at the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA). He'll be talking about how to "Schedule, Display & Preserve GIS Records" and will discuss KDLA's method for linking record series, including GIS records, to electronic system descriptions for the purpose of facilitating records management within electronic systems. This procedure encourages system managers to establish controls such as retention periods within the system based on how they are scheduled. Unless records in a system can be deleted or retained based on an authorized retention period then systems will not run efficiently and in a cost-effective manner. He will also show examples of descriptive methods and preservation techniques used in the KDLA public access system (DSpace), as well as in the preservation system (Preservica) to which the access system records are transferred. Limitations and approaches in recognition, display, and preservation of various types of geospatial records will be discussed. Feel free to share this announcement with any interested folks.
