Senior Software Engineer
Space Telescope Science Institute
Baltimore

The Operations and Engineering Division is seeking a Senior Software Engineer.
The successful candidate will work as a member of the team developing and
enhancing the archive, which stores the science data from the Hubble, Kepler,
and several other past and future space based astronomical satellites to the
astronomical community and distributes that data to the public. The archive is
the enduring and heavily used component of the operational system. The archive
team is currently updating all aspects of the archive infrastructure,
including ingest, distribution, and data discovery systems.

  
Skills & Requirements

  
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in computer science
or a degree in physics, astronomy, or mathematics in combination with
excellent and relevant work experience.

  
Experience or coursework in the following skills are preferred:

  * One or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, C++
  * Relational databases (e.g. MySQL, SQL Server)
Experience in any of the following areas would be a plus:

  * Javascript, CSS, HTML5
  * Web services
  * Data Visualization tools
  * Advanced statistical techniques
  * Astronomical data processing for images or spectra
  * Experience with large scale data sets
