The UC San Diego Library is searching for a creative metadata thinker with strong experience leading staff through organizational, operational, and ongoing adaptive changes.

 

Program Description

 

Metadata Services is responsible for creating and managing the metadata for UC San Diego Library collections.  Included in the Metadata Services Program’s scope:

 

The approximately 37 program staff are responsible for creating, manipulating and managing metadata in these four key databases:

 

Metadata is also coordinated with OCLC WorldCat, which is the backend for Melvyl, the union catalog for the ten University of California campuses, and with the San Diego Circuit, a catalog that includes many libraries in the greater San Diego area.

 

Responsibilities of the Position

 

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Collections Services, the Director of Metadata Services provides innovative vision and leadership, strategic planning and management for all the operational activities of the UC San Diego Library’s Metadata Services Program.  This position is part of the Library’s Collection Services area and works in close concert with senior management and collaboratively with the other Program Directors in Collection Services.

Librarians at UCSD are academic appointees and entitled to appropriate professional leave and all other perquisites granted to non-faculty academic personnel. UCSD librarians are expected to participate in library-wide and system-wide planning and governance and to be professionally active.

 

Salary:  Salary and level of appointment in the Librarian series commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the University of California pay scales.
