Under the supervision of the Project Archivists for the Helen & Newton
Harrison, the Processing Assistant supports and assists with processing of
complex set of collection materials. They are responsible for flow of material
in and out of our work and storage locations including coordination with our
permanent storage facility; for accessioning data from legacy media using our
forensic workstation; for assisting with re-housing, arrangement and
description of materials at the item level, such as artwork, audio and video,
and assisting the archivist in coordination with other departments. They will
interact with management and colleagues within and outside the functional area
and coordinate and perform a wide range of activities, including creation of
basic metadata elements,throughout a variety of reformatting workflows for
archival materials.

  
Qualifications:

  
Minimum Education & Experience Required

  * Bachelor's degree or three or more years of experience in an academic library, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  * Must have subject knowledge associated with undergraduate course work in a specialized subject
  * Knowledge of basic archival concepts
  * Ability to understand and communicate library policy
  * Experience with complex information systems (e.g. Archivist's Toolkit, FTK Imager, etc.)
  * Demonstrated experience in using judgment and initiative to analyze and recommend
  * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  * Demonstrated experience in using judgment and initiative
  * Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and groups both internal and external to the organization
Physical Requirements

  * Ability to push a cart weighing up to 650 lbs that requires an initial push force up to70 lbs
  * Ability to lift 40 pounds regularly
  * Ability to work in an environment that is dusty and or moldy
  * Ability to kneel and reach
