The Institute for Advanced Study is dedicated to the pursuit of fundamental
knowledge. In the more than eighty years since its founding, the work of the
Institute's Faculty and Members has had permanent impact, in both intellectual
and practical terms in the broad range of fields in the sciences and
humanities.

  
We are currently seeking to fill a position for an Archivist to oversee the
Archives of the Institute under the general direction of the Librarian. The
collections of the Archives encompass approximately 900 linear feet.
Responsibilities include developing and administering policies, procedures,
and tracking systems for preserving and providing access to collections and
leading long-range planning efforts for collections and facilities. Working
with an Archival Assistant, the Archivist will respond to internal and
external requests and manage the accessioning and processing of collections,
including the creation of EAD and finding aids. The incumbent will guide
collection development efforts for the archives, including soliciting faculty
for their papers and working with campus departments to transfer records.
Additional responsibilities includes tracking and documenting art and
artifacts in the Institute's possession, coordinating the preservation of
items, managing digital collections and digitization activities and leading
efforts to preserve 'born digital' archival materials. The Archivist will
provide oversight for the ongoing oral history project; coordinate outreach
efforts, including developing exhibits and making presentations to relevant
internal and external groups

  
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program
in library, information, or archival science, with at least three years of
professional experience in archival work required. Strong written and oral
communication skills are essential as well as computer skills. Knowledge of
associated metadata standards for archives, including DACS, EAD, and EAC-CPF,
as well as demonstrated expertise with digital preservation and access
techniques required. Knowledge of one or more western European languages as
well as supervisory experience preferred. Some familiarity with CONTENTdm,
Archivists' Toolkit, and ArchivesSpace as well as knowledge of standards for
digital imaging and maintaining digital assets and metadata also preferred.
