Visiting Librarian, Open Publishing Fellow Pacific University Forest Grove The Pacific University Libraries are seeking an Open Publishing Fellow (OPF) to help lead the development and expansion of the Libraries' open access publishing services. The OPF will be actively engaged in exploring digital publishing models for open monographic content and in creating a strategy for promoting the use-and creation-of open textbooks and open educational resources within the Pacific University community. The OPF is expected to take a leadership role in these areas; the fellowship is not intended to provide training for the fellow, but rather an opportunity to directly inform and influence the direction of the Libraries' publishing program. Applicants with experience in digital publishing and/or the creation or use of open educational resources are encouraged to apply. August-November, 2014 (exact dates are flexible) Opportunities and Expectations: The Libraries intend to expand their publishing program to include the publication of scholarly and creative digital monographs. This will include monographs in traditional formats, but may also include multimodal texts and/or supplemental multimodal resources to accompany traditionally formatted texts. * The OPF will explore, and provide recommendations on, formats, platforms, and tools to enable the review and production of these types of works. Implementation of platforms/tools during the fellowship is not expected, but is encouraged. The Libraries have also identified open textbooks and other OERs as a priority for their publishing program. Developing and implementing strategies to encourage faculty to integrate existing texts/resources into their courses and to create original open texts/resources will be the focus of the Fellow's work in this area. * The OPF will collaborate with the Library Director and other relevant colleagues to develop an OER program with the goal of realizing student savings and pedagogical improvement through the replacement of high cost required texts with open resources. * The OPF will also develop recommendations for processes, technology, and support services that will encourage the creation of open textbooks/OERS by Pacific University faculty (to be published/distributed by the Libraries). There will be significant overlap between these two areas-the exploration of formats/platforms/tools for the review and production of monographic works and alternative supplemental materials in general should be directly applicable to Library-supported creation of open textbooks/OERS. Eligibility and Requirements: * The Open Publishing Fellowship is open to any applicant who is legally able to accept employment in the United States. * Applicants should have demonstrated experience with digital monographic publishing and/or the creation or use of open educational resources. * Preference will be given to applicants with strong technical skills (HTML, XML, Adobe products, etc.). * Experience working in academic libraries is not required. Decision Timeline: The Pacific University Library Director and Scholarly Communication & Research Services Librarian will review applications; finalists for the Fellowship will be invited to interview (virtually or in person) in June 2014. The Fellowship recipient will be announced July 1 2014. The Fellowship will start in August; the exact start date is negotiable. Compensation: The Fellow will receive a stipend of $3500 - $4000/month depending on demonstrated experience. This is four-month, non-benefit eligible position.
