*Position Available:* The expected start date is as soon as possible after
the closing date. This is a 100%, twelve-month, tenure-system appointment.

*Responsibilities:*  The University of Illinois Library seeks a
collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented leader for the position of
Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Library Information Technology.
This position reports to the University Librarian and Dean of Libraries, is
a part of the Library senior management team, and works collaboratively
with the AUL for Research, the AUL for Collections, and the AUL for User
Services.  We seek a professional who views the library as an integral part
of a top-tier research university, and who brings to the role a deep
understanding of the evolving role of the library on campus, in higher
education, and in the broader library and information science community.

The AUL for Library Information Technology will lead the development of
information technology in the Library, participate actively in Library and
campus IT governance stakeholder groups, and be responsible for leadership,
management, and planning for the services and infrastructure in the Office
of Library Information Technology (IT) which includes 25 FTE professionals
in several functional areas:  IT Production Services --Help Desk,
Infrastructure Management, Workstation & Network Support, Web Development;
Software Development; Repository and Scholarly Communications; and Access &
Discovery Support.

*Duties include:*

·         Lead the development of Library information technology in support
of the campus’ current and emerging needs, primarily focused on the
advancement of the Library’s programs in support of information discovery
and access, and the campus mission of research, teaching and learning, and
engagement;

·         Manage a budget of approximately $1.8 million in personnel,
equipment and services in the Office of Library Information Technology;

·         Provide leadership, management, and planning for the IT services
and infrastructure that support Library programs  services, and staff;

·         Foster professional development of staff to meet the challenges
of a rapidly changing environment; actively supports a workplace culture
that values and promotes a service philosophy;

·         Work closely with the Library’s Digital Content Creation unit and
play a key role in developing and supporting its IT needs;

·         As a member of the Library’s senior management team, participate
in the development of a shared vision for the Library’s future that
supports the mission of the University and responds to the changing
information needs of the UIUC community; participates in system-wide
planning, policy development, resource allocation, and personnel management;

·         Work closely with the Library and campus IT governance
stakeholder groups, actively participating in IT committees and activities,
seeking advice on Library IT programs and services, and representing the
Library in setting campus IT strategic directions;

·         Represent the Library in technology collaborations on campus,
through collaborations with consortia such as CARLI (Consortium of Academic
Research Libraries of Illinois) and the Committee on Institutional
Cooperation (CIC), and nationally through groups such as the Digital
Library Federation

·         Articulate, pursue and, over time, refine a strong agenda in
research, scholarly publication, and professional service activities in
areas appropriate for academic librarianship at the University of Illinois.

library access and discovery technologies, including federated search, Open
Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), and more
recently through its involvement in the CIC (Committee on Institutional
Cooperation) large scale digitization projects including Google and
Internet Archive, Digital Public Library of America, and the HathiTrust
Research Center (HTRC).

*Qualifications:*

*Required:* Master’s degree in Computer Science, Library and Information
Science, Management Information Systems or equivalent combination of
education and experience; significant leadership and administrative
experience; thorough understanding of the dynamic academic technology
environment; proven track record of successful budget management;
commitment to mentoring and  support for staff professional development ;
demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others in
a team environment and within a complex and fluid organizational
environment; evidence of excellent communication and analytical skills;
evidence of ability to perform research, publication, and service consonant
with university standards for tenure at the level of Associate or Full
Professor

*Preferred:* IT experience in a large research library or in a related
academic or research setting, with an emphasis on digital library systems;
knowledge and understanding of research library organizations, current
issues and trends, and the complex interaction with the overall academic
and administrative mission of a university;  experience with the
development and implementation of grant proposals and collaborative
programs.

*Salary and Rank: *Salary commensurate with credentials and experience.
Librarians have faculty rank, and must demonstrate excellence in
librarianship, research, and university/professional/community service in
order to meet university standards for tenure and promotion. For more

*Terms of Appointment:* Twelve-month appointment; 24 annual vacation days;
11 annual paid holidays; 12 annual sick-leave days (cumulative), plus an
additional 13 sick-leave days (non-cumulative) available, if needed, each
year; health insurance requiring a small co-payment is provided to employee
(with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents); required
participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS) (8% of annual
salary is withheld and is refundable upon termination), with several
options for participation in additional retirement plans; newly-hired
employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security and are
subject to its deduction.
