The University of Georgia Libraries seeks a forward-thinking, results-oriented
leader for the position of Deputy University Librarian and Director of Library
Technology to help refine and implement the information technology vision of
the [UGA Libraries](http://www.libs.uga.edu) and the statewide [GALILEO
virtual library](http://www.galileo.usg.edu). The Deputy University Librarian
and Director of Library Technology is responsible to the University Librarian
and Associate Provost for assisting in the development and implementation of
the mission, goals and broad policy directions for the University of Georgia
Libraries, and for the overall administration and coordination of IT support
services for the UGA Libraries, GALILEO (Georgia's statewide virtual library)
and GIL (the University System of Georgia's [USG]) library management system.
As Deputy University Librarian, this position works closely with the
University Librarian and the Director of Administrative Services in providing
leadership in strategic planning, administration and resource allocation;
represents the University Librarian in meetings; assumes overall
responsibility for the Libraries in the absence of the University Librarian;
and coordinates the activities and personnel at UGA research facility
libraries located throughout Georgia.

  
As the Director of Library Technology, this position represents the UGA
Libraries with campus Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS), Board
of Regents Library Services, technology vendors, and at state and national
library arenas focused on technology. This position is responsible for the
leadership, management and planning of the UGA Libraries' Systems Department,
which includes 19 FTE IT professionals and one librarian faculty member in
three units: Library Technology Support Group, GIL Liaison and Systems
Librarian, and GALILEO/GIL Technical Support Services. These units support the
UGA Libraries' network infrastructure; staff and public computer equipment and
software; databases and applications; the UGA Libraries web environment
([www.libs.uga.edu](http://www.libs.uga.edu)); the UGA Libraries online
catalog ([https://gil.uga.edu](https://gil.uga.edu)); the EBSCO Discovery
Service for UGA
([www.libs.uga.edu/multisearch](http://www.libs.uga.edu/multisearch)); UGA
scholarly repository
([http://athenaeum.libs.uga.edu](http://athenaeum.libs.uga.edu)); the Digital
Library of Georgia collaborative digitization program
(http://dlg.galileo.usg.edu); GALILEO
([www.galileo.usg.edu](http://www.galileo.usg.edu)); GIL
([http://gil.usg.edu](http://gil.usg.edu)) and other resources. Additionally,
this position coordinates the activities of the Systems Librarian and
GALILEO/GIL Technical Support Services Unit with the Executive Director for
Library Services of the Board of Regents (BOR), USG.
