The university library is a central facility of the university in the areas of
information, communication and media. As a modern and fully integrated library
space with over 2 million volumes and a massively growing supply of digital
information and services, it is the central service hub for student experience
and academic research. Extensive opening hours and a strong project sector are
hallmarks of the university library, as well as the dedication to provide high
quality service with a continuous intent to improve. The university library is
one of the leading innovators in the area of digital academic information
services in Germany, building on its strong national and international
connections. Currently the university takes up the challenge of originating
new and effective solutions for the accessibility and preservation of the
institution’s research data and publications, looking to embed them in future-
orientated value-added services. This is one of the tasks in which the library
will serve a strategically essential role.

We are looking for an outstanding individual whose visionary thinking and
capacity for creative productivity will lead our library as the service center
of academic information and who will navigate the library through the fast-
paced changes and challenges of the 21st century. Our competent and highly
motivated team of library employees will provide the necessary structure and
support.

Tasks:

- Executive direction of the university library 
- Leading responsibility for all services provided by the university library 
- Strategic progressive development of those services as well as the project sector in alignment with changing user demands 
- Development of concepts and services to ensure preservation and
accessibility of our own research data and publications 
- Representation of library interests in university and external, as well as international committees
- International networking 
- Supportive and advisory function to the rectorate 

Qualifications and skills: 

- Successful university education
- Experience in executive managing of academic libraries or comparable positions
- Must be strategic thinker and networked individual Creative vision and the
ability to transform aspiration into reality 
- Must have cogent approach and excellent communication and negotiation skills 
- Must be assertive, team-oriented, flexible and always prepared for difficult and unexpected situations
- Communicative and cooperative leadership style, management expertise and the
capability to motivate 
- Advanced written and oral presentation skills 

Payment will be according to personal qualifications and applicable ruling. 
In case of abiding by applicable career regulations, the employment may be 
transferred into a civil service career (Bes. Gr. A16).
