The University of Michigan Library in Ann Arbor is one of the largest university library systems in the United States, holding more than 8.5 million print volumes. Each year, the University Library with locations across the Ann Arbor campus, adds the equivalent of 2 miles of new material to one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of any academic library in the world. Our seminal role in digitization enabled the creation of HathiTrust, a coalition of over 80 libraries with a growing digital collection that currently exceeds 11 million volumes.

The User Experience (UX) Department at the University of Michigan Library is seeking a talented and enthusiastic User Experience Architect to support a large-scale initiative to redesign the library's web presence. The ideal candidate will be a strong creative thinker and problem solver, and have solid information architecture skills, interaction design skills, and a passion for understanding users in the context of higher education. The User Experience Architect works closely with UX Department staff (Department Manager, UI/UX Designer, and Web Content Strategist) plus developers and internal stakeholders.

About the UX Department: the UX Department is part of the Library Information Technology Division (LIT) and focuses on the interface design, user research/usability, and content strategy needs for the library's primary interfaces - including multiple websites, access systems, and mobile interfaces. These interfaces provide access to over 10 million physical and digital resources and are visited by over 2 million users a month. Appointment is anticipated at the level of Web Designer/Administrator Senior or as a librarian. Librarian salary and rank dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Librarian appointments carry with them increased expectations regarding professional development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with the Library's process for Librarian Promotion and Advancement (www.lib.umich.edu/li...pointment-librarians).
Position receives 24 days of vacation a year and 15 days of sick leave a year with provisions for extended benefits as well as opportunities for professional development and travel. TIAA-CREF and Fidelity Investments retirement options available.
