The International Journal on Digital Libraries has put out a call for papers for a special issue “METS Now, and Then... Discussions of Current and Future Data Models.”
This focused issue arises from topics covered by the “METS Now, and Then” workshop that was held at the Digital Libraries 2014 conference in London (http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/news051314.html).
We invite submissions on topics including but not limited to:
- How the use of METS has transitioned over time as new tools and complementary or competing metadata standards have emerged
- Impact of workflow upon METS-based data models
- How the METS standard has influenced the internal data models used by different information management or preservation systems
- How METS is being used as an import/export format between systems
- How METS Profiles (published or otherwise) have influenced METS data models
- How data models influence interoperability between METS and other aggregation or packaging standards, such as
- BagIt
- OAI-ORE
- MPEG DIDL
- Others
- How data models are influenced by embedded or linked metadata within METS, such as
- PREMIS
- MODS
- Or other MDTYPEs enumerated by METS
- Other custom extensions to the METS Standard needed to meet local requirements or to address missing functionality
- Advantages and disadvantages of differentiating metadata types using the METS MDTYPE attribute
- Potential or proven implementation strategies for repurposing METS contained metadata via Semantic Web technologies and Linked Open Data
Previously published or accepted conference papers must contain at least 30% new material to be considered for the special issue. Initial paper submissions are due by December 31, 2014. Details regarding submissions can be found here:
