There is also Able Organizer, a new CRM distribution for Drupal that has events in its protfolio. I have not had much opportunity to work with it, yet. https://www.drupal.org/project/ableorganizer

Drupal COD is well established. I wouldn't tar COD for some external BS. That makes no sense. We use it for out local Drupal events.
