User Interface Designer Illinois State University Normal Milner Library seeks an individual who understands and is able to articulate what a great library user experience should be, and who has the desire and ability to translate that knowledge into practice by designing compelling user interfaces. The User Interface designer will provide interaction design services to a variety of technology-based projects and works with stakeholders across library's departments to understand requirements in order to design web-based user interfaces, mobile user interfaces, and online visual elements. The ideal candidate will engage colleagues to propose new solutions to complex user-centered design problems, articulate design decisions clearly and do both concept and execute design. In addition, they will also thrive in a work environment that requires strong problem solving skills and independent self- direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. This individual excels at providing both highly analytical, as well as highly creative ideas to a design engagement. A thorough understanding of contemporary user-centered design methodologies is a must. Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Graphics or Visual Communications, or Interaction Design (verified through transcript)Minimum four (4) years of professional level user interface design work experience (as demonstrated by a portfolio). 2. Two (2) years experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks and associated design tools. 3. Exceptional design skills, production value and attention to detail. 4. Strong conceptualization ability, strong visual communication ability, drawing skills and sketchbook technique 5. Ability to create wireframes as well as visual design comps. 6. Experience with user interface design patterns and standard UCD methodologies. 7. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 8. An overall good sense of project/time management. 9. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources. Desired Qualifications: 1. Master's degree in Library Science, Management and Information Systems, Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction Design, Graphic Design or related design field. 2. Knowledge and experience with academic libraries or higher education work environments preferred. 3. Experience working with digital content management systems commonly used in academic libraries and higher education. 4. Experiences with Mac OS. 5. Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript/JQuery. 6. Motion graphics design and production. 7. Video and sound editing.
