Project and Production Cataloger, Special Collections New York University, Division of Libraries New York City **Description:** Knowledge Access and Resources Management Services (KARMS) in the NYU Division of Libraries is seeking a Project and Production Cataloger who will bring cataloging expertise and goal-oriented direction to the diverse team of library staff who provide intellectual access to resources selected for inclusion in the library's collections, particularly the Fales Library and Special Collections and the Tamiment Library & Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives. Based in the Metadata Production and Management Department of KARMS, the Project and Production Cataloger works collaboratively with many levels of staff in KARMS, in the NYU special collections, and in other subject collections in which the library collects intensively to enable users to discover and gain access to the rich resources found in those collections, while ensuring that cataloging project and production goals are met. The Project and Production Cataloger, Special Collections, is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian of Practice. Under the supervision of the Head of Metadata Production & Management, the successful candidate will: * perform original cataloging for library materials in accord with applicable international standards and local policies * in close collaboration with special collections curators and selectors for other library collections, develop, revise, and document cataloging routines that support enhanced intellectual access to library resources in a variety of formats * train processing assistants and adjunct catalogers in cataloging and processing procedures; develop and implement quality control methods; coordinate scheduling and work assignments to meet project and production goals for individual library collections * identify and analyze systems and workflows that could be used to facilitate processing and increase production rates; play an active role in a team that organizes and analyzes automated cataloging statistics to verify that benchmarks are met and designated collection resources are processed on schedule * collaborate with other KARMS staff to troubleshoot the export of bibliographic data from the NYU integrated library system (currently Ex Libris' Aleph) to the OCLC database and other interinstitutional repositories * collaborate with KARMS Archival Collections Management Department staff and the special collections curators to develop and implement a holistic approach to discovery and access across all special collections resources regardless of format, as well as to authority work performed for those collections * advise on the selection and use of metadata schemes, controlled vocabularies, data dictionaries, etc., to deepen access to digitized special collections resources in centralized or distributed institutional repositories, as these are developed **Qualifications: Required Education & Experience** * MLS from an ALA-accredited program * minimum of three years technical services experience in an academic library * strong original cataloging skills * bibliographic knowledge of classical and major Western European languages * familiarity with international cataloging and metadata standards, e.g., AACR2R, DCRMB, RDA, FRBR, MARC21, LCSH, LCC, EAD * successful track record of planning, leading, and assessing production-oriented projects and of setting and achieving individual and team goals * awareness of current trends in providing intellectual access to library resources and in related emerging technologies * proven analytical, organizational, planning, and time-management skills * ability to work flexibly and creatively in a rapidly changing environment * excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to facilitate interaction with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and other community members and stakeholders * strong service orientation and knowledge of user needs/skill levels. **Preferred Education & Experience** * experience with one or more of the suite of Ex Libris products (Primo, Aleph, Metalib, SFX) and experience performing data analysis on a variety of data formats * ability to manage the processes involved in cataloging works in languages in vernacular scripts, e.g., Cyrillic, CJK, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew and Yiddish * knowledge of repository platforms, current and next generation information discovery applications, and open URL resolution systems * familiarity with basic acquisitions procedures, such as ordering, receiving, and batch loading **New York University Libraries:** Libraries at New York University serve the school's 40,000 students and faculty and contain more than 5 million volumes. Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services facilitates the teaching, learning, and research endeavors of the Libraries' user communities through processes and services in program areas that include library acquisitions, serials and electronic resource management, knowledge access design and development, archival collections management, and metadata production and management. In collaboration with our colleagues in Collections and Research Services, Public Services, Libraries IT Services, and Digital Library Technology Services, KARMS has primary leadership responsibility for knowledge access via the Libraries' dynamic, integrated discovery and access systems. In addition to serving NYU's central libraries, institute libraries, and global sites, KARMS provides selected services to Research Library Association of South Manhattan member libraries and other affiliated libraries. **Salary/Benefits:** Attractive benefits package including five weeks annual vacation.
