Junior Web Applications Developer

The Ryerson University Library and Archives (RULA) is a vital support to
learning, teaching, and scholarly, research and creative activities at the
university. Its primary role is to collect, organize, preserve, disseminate,
and provide access to essential information resources. The library
collaborates across all parts of the university to foster critical thinkers
and lifelong learners.

  
The library's collection consists of over 500,000 books; 2,000 print journal
titles; and a rising number of electronic resources (e.g., 26,000 e-journals;
e-books; databases and indexes; geospatial data; catalogued websites;
electronic documents). These holdings reflect the breadth of programs
available at Ryerson.

  
Electronic resources can be accessed on-site through library computers or
laptops that have wireless connectivity. Authorized users can also gain access
from off-campus locations.

  
The library supports an extensive information literacy program that is
designed to build students' university-level research skills. This program
includes on-site research support, chat reference, and specialized classroom
instruction at the course level.

  
Under the direction of the Head, Library Information Technology Services, the
Junior Web Applications Developer creates, designs, tests, implements, and
supports web-based applications to enhance the quality of library services.
You will also provide technical consultation to library staff and users on
application development and troubleshooting.

  
**Qualifications**  

  * Successful completion of a post-secondary degree program in Computer Science and a minimum of one years' related work experience in web application development.
  * Demonstrated experience with client-side web application development using HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, and UI toolkits.
  * Demonstrated experience with server-side web development using PHP, Java or Coldfusion.
  * Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to prepare user manuals for new software, scripts and procedures; and to explain detailed and complex procedures.
  * Strong analytical skills are required to investigate problems relating to software; to become familiar with products and procedures; to isolate problems with diagnostic tools; and to interpret the results of testing and provide a solution in accordance with the Library's goals and objectives.
  * Ability to make decisions on completing assignments while still remaining within standard practices and methods.
  * A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and be available for on-call coverage during critical periods or after modifications.
