Job Description Summary:

Provides leadership in the facilitation of learning, teaching and research,
focusing on the use of special collections and archives materials. Maximizes
exposure and usage of the special collections for scholarly and pedagogical
purposes to students, faculty and staff. Builds the collections to support the
curriculum and manages the organization and preservation of materials in all
collections and formats. Coordinates the identification, collection, and
organization of University content of enduring value.

  
Minimum Qualifications:

  
ALA-accredited MLS, Master's degree in Archives, or another appropriate field
that includes relevant course work.

Minimum of 5 years progressive leadership experience in a library archives or
special collections.

In-depth knowledge of best practices and current standards for effective and
efficient archival processing and preservation.

A strong commitment to teaching and outreach.

Teaching experience.

Experience interacting effectively working with donors.

Experience in planning digital collections containing archival and/or special
collections materials.

Familiarity and facility with emerging library technologies and trends in
special collection and archives.

Supervisory experience.

Outstanding communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.

  
Preferred Qualifications:

Second Master's degree in a related field.

  
Work Environment:

Located in the James B. Duke Library, the Special Collections and Archives
department includes the beautiful William Gilmore Simms Research Room and a
capacious staff work area. The sizeable Special Collections and Archives
storage area is carefully controlled to maintain optimal temperature and
humidity.
