Library Systems Analyst

Brown University Library seeks imaginative and energetic candidates for the position of Library Systems Analyst.  The Systems Analyst will be primarily concerned with analyzing and improving the efficiency of workflows in cataloging and metadata services; acquisitions and electronic resources; circulation and resource sharing, and off-site storage.  S/he will create new automated routines for work that is amenable to automation; improve existing automated routines, or both.  The Systems Analyst will also develop training modules and documentation for staff in the use of such tools.

Another important component of this person's work is the exploration of new system needs, and s/he will be expected to assist in developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), interview technical representatives of library automation vendors, evaluate vendor responses to RFPs, and maintain awareness of library automation marketplace trends and developments.  Finally, the Systems Analyst will provide technical support for e-resources and will work with e-resource management systems, access tools, and authentication protocols currently in use to ensure reliable access to critical library networked resources.

Qualifications:

·      Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

·      MLIS or equivalent desirable.  

·      Significant, demonstrable experience with common programming languages (e.g., Ruby, Python)

·      3-5 years’ experience with common library software and automation tools (e.g., MARCEdit, AutoIt, Archivists’ Toolkit, OpenRefine, EZProxy).

·      3-5 years’ demonstrated experience with systems and workflow analysis and collaborative approaches to continuous improvement.

·      Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

·      Creativity and strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·      Previous experience with library automation software in use at Brown (Innovative Millennium, GFA inventory control).

·      Ability to learn new technical skills quickly; ability to meet deadlines; strong service-orientation

·      Evidence of ability to grow professionally.
