_Description:_ The Digital Scholarship Unit (DSU) at the UTSC Library partners
with Liaison Librarians and Information and Instructional Technology Services
(IITS) to provide consultation and development services for projects
supporting experimentation and co-curricular pedagogy at UTSC and beyond,
frameworks that help projects preserve and manage digital data, in-class
training on digital scholarship tools, access and training on issues relating
to scholarly publishing and open access, advice on metadata development and
management, and many other mechanisms of digital scholarship.

  
Working under the direction of the Coordinator, Digital Scholarship Unit
(DSU), the Application Developer creates, designs, codes, tests, implements,
and supports web-based applications for the development of digital research
projects, collections of digital data, and other tasks associated with the
life cycle management of digital assets at the UTSC Library. The incumbent
will act as a resource on academic research teams to gather researchers'
requirements for the building of web-based applications. Applications are
mainly built for purpose to assist with the gathering and analysis of data
obtained from the World Wide Web and to create digital space for scholarly
materials. The incumbent will be responsible for conversion of hard copy
materials, printed publications, and/or physical assets of scholarly value
into digitized forms for electronic storage and access (i.e. historical
artifacts, maps, photography, etc.).

  
The incumbent will work frequently with various teams of multi-discipline
professionals, academics, and researchers, and be involved in an array of
research topics and academic initiatives (i.e. study of the socio-economical
environment of a specific cultural group; clearer electronic display of
chemical molecular elements; analysis of Internet media coverage on a specific
country). Project teams can include local or international contacts. This
position will provide assistance to the Application Programmer within the DSU,
and will work alongside Senior Application Programmers within the department
of Information and Instructional Technology Services (IITS) on initiatives
requiring advanced technological support.

  
  
_Qualifications: (Minimum Requirements)_

  
Education: Successful completion of a University degree program in Computer
Science or equivalent combination of college education and experience.

  
Experience: Four (4) years related work and/or extracurricular experience,
including a minimum of one (1) year professional experience in application
development

  
Skills: Demonstrated abilities with client-side web application development
using HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, and UI toolkits.
Demonstrated ability with server-side web development using PHP and/or
Java. Excellent communication skills and attention to
detail

  
Other: Ability to set appropriate priorities and work independently on
assigned tasks. Ability to work within a team environment
with other library and non-library professional staff.
Flexibility in a fast-paced environment and demonstrated enthusiasm for
technology, particularly emerging technologies.
Demonstrated interest in initiatives to advance academic research and
electronic presentation of scholarly materials or information.

  
Employee Group: United Steelworkers (USW)

Appointment Type: Budget - Continuing

Schedule: Full-time

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW11 -- $59,345 with an annual step
progression to a maximum of $75,890. Pay scale and job class assignment is
subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance
Protocol.
