Digital Applications Librarian Washington State University Pullman PDF version available: The Washington State University Libraries invites applications for Digital Applications Librarian, a full-time, 12-month, 2.5-year grant-funded temporary position with the possibility of extended funding located on the Pullman campus. Start date for this position is negotiable but is targeted for **July 1st, 2015**. **Background:** **Mukurtu CMS** (http://mukurtu.org) is a free and open source community archive platform and content management system built on Drupal 7 and aimed at the specific needs of indigenous communities globally to manage, preserve, share and curate their digital cultural heritage. Mukurtu started as a grassroots community platform and has developed along with a growing user-base and will be fully open source with a 2.0 release in March 2015. This new position will focus on Mukurtu, highlighting the on-going commitment of the WSU Libraries to promote the ethical curation of cultural heritage materials across diverse settings through the newly formed Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC). **Position Detail:** The Digital Applications Librarian is part of the CDSC's long term project aimed at providing educational opportunities around digital curation, preservation and content management, specifically to underserved communities. The CDSC is the home for core digital scholarship and curation projects across campus with a special eye toward building out the libraries role and Mukurtu's capabilities. This position will provide an exciting space for collaboration, innovation, and open-source tool building through the continued development of Mukurtu CMS within a team environment. The Digital Applications Librarian will work directly with CDSC and Library staff to add features, update systems and integrate Mukurtu CMS into the core Library systems and projects including supporting several tribal communities nationwide in their use of the platform. This position will also investigate new directions for the Mukurtu CMS software to better serve current constituents and spur adoption of the platform into new environments. The successful applicant should be well versed in current digital library initiatives, platforms, programs and trends in archiving, digital curation, and digital content management with a special eye toward serving marginalized communities. He or she should have experience using Drupal and other open source content management systems, and ideally be able to work in an agile development setting and work as a part of a support team. The Digital Applications Librarian will play an integral role in designing, developing, testing and deploying new features, modules and resources to extend and enhance digital content and services through Mukurtu. This may include such tasks as using existing application programming interfaces (APIs) to facilitate multiple submission and access pathways all building from Mukurtu related projects. The position may write and/or modify code and will conduct quality assurance on code contributed by other developers by ensuring the contributions match development expectations. In all cases the Digital Applications Librarian will be an integral part of the Mukurtu Support team for internal Library projects and community partners. **Scholarship, Service, & Professional Development:** Participate in appropriate scholarship, faculty governance, and service as a library faculty member; engage in library-wide initiatives as appropriate; maintain current awareness of trends and advancements in academic librarianship, and actively participate in appropriate meetings and organizations. **Minimum/Required Qualifications:** MLS or MLIS from an ALA-Accredited Library and Information Studies program at date of hire; excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational, problem-solving and planning skills; ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues. **Preferred Qualifications:** Experience working with and supporting Content Management Systems (Drupal preferred). Experience with Drupal 7 in an active development environment. Familiarity with current trends in digital library initiatives and digital curation. Experience with web-based application development languages and other technologies such as PHP, Python, Ruby, JavaScript, and AJAX. Familiarity with Bootstrap CSS, CSS and HTML5. Experience working with web APIs (HTTP/REST/JSON). Comfort using version control (e.g., Git). Strong attention to access, privacy and security issues. Commitment to working with diverse communities. Willingness to participate in an open-source community. Willingness to work in an agile-development team environment, assist in expanding the open source community of developers, lead and think creatively, problem-solve and be flexible.
