Position Summary:

  
The California Digital Library (CDL) is a collaborative effort of the ten
campuses of the University of California, designed to enable UC's libraries to
continue to meet the informational needs of UC's faculty and students in the
21st century. The CDL assumes a leadership role in providing digital content
to the citizens of the state, develops systems that encourage resource
sharing, and provides for a focus for the development of strategies and
initiatives that guide the University's libraries through the transition to
the digital future.

  
Experienced professional with demonstrable ability to manage large, end user
facing, complex and tightly integrated hosted discovery (currently Melvyl,
built on OCLC's WorldCat Local) and delivery (interlibrary loan and document
delivery currently via OCLC's VDX) services. Works with an
experienced team of analysts, product managers and developers to develop
services in response to the changing needs of students, faculty and
staff. Possesses digital library services domain knowledge
and a strong interest in identifying and solving real end
user challenges. Creates and maintains strong vendor
relationships, and acts as an advocate for end users.
Develops and participates in outreach activities with University of California
students, faculty and librarians to promote awareness of discovery and
delivery services.

  
Job Requirements:

  
Bachelor's degree in Information Sciences or related subject specialty and at
least three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.

  
Broad knowledge of product development concepts, practices, standards and
processes in digital libraries.

  
Demonstrated ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's
need and the success of a desired product, service, or enhancement.

  
Proven ability to research, collect and analyze information to use in
determining product options or alternatives. Ability to use
evidence based research to persuade vendors to address product gaps, or
propose alternative solutions.

  
Strong organization and project management skills.

  
Strong oral communication skills to effectively convey and explain
information.

  
Strong written communications skills to draft clear, concise documentation,
reports and specifications. Demonstrable ability to
crystallize requirements and work with technical implementers.

  
Ability to lead, build consensus and promote the exchange of information among
project team, internal and external constituencies.

  
Proven ability to evaluate vendor driven technical transitions (i.e. vendor
moves to a new platform), perform research to support decision making around
transitions, and successfully lead a transition (either to the vendor's
solution, or to an entirely new solution).

  
Knowledge of academic library and digital library industry trends.

  
Proficiency in metadata standards, current and evolving, or the interest in
acquiring proficiency.

  
Proven facilitation, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  
Willingness to reach out to end users and act as an advocate.

  
Strong vendor relationship management skills, including the ability to work
effectively with both vendors and the vendor user community to shape product
development and enhancements

  
Master's degree in Information Sciences or related subject specialty
(Preferred).

  
Proficiency in assessment methodologies(Preferred).
