The ALCTS PARS Preservation Metadata Interest Group seeks proposals to present on the topic "Pragmatic Implementations of Lightweight Preservation Metadata” at the 2015 ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco, CA.
Our program is scheduled for Saturday, June 27 from 3:00–4:00 p.m. and will feature two 20-minute presentations as well as time for Q&A.
For institutions getting started with digital preservation, the standards can be overwhelming. Making smart choices about what constitutes “good enough” can enable you to move forward more quickly. The program aims to feature case studies and practical examples of how libraries are creating and maintaining lightweight metadata that supports long-term preservation of digital materials.
Proposal ideas might touch on (but are not limited to):
- Strategies for getting started, from initial inventory of digital content to robust storage of preservation metadata
- Policies or workflows for collecting actionable preservation metadata
- Microservices architectures in support of preservation functions
- Implementations of open-source or commercial preservation systems
- Vendor perspectives on PREMIS implementations
