You will learn basic PHP syntax and control structures (if/else, for), as well as built-in commands for manipulating data. Prior knowledge of HTML, including HTML forms, is recommended. Students will: - Understand security concerns with writing PHP applications - Create a working example application that queries an external data source and displays it to the screen - Learn about various free sources of bibliographic data on the internet - Be able to read and interpret PHP and HTTP errors Caleb Tucker-Raymond is a freelance web developer in Portland, Oregon specializing in connecting library systems to the Drupal content management system. Before that he worked as a public and academic librarian for 14 years in systems, reference, and the intersection of the two. He earned his MSLIS with Simmons College. Course Structure This is an online class that is taught asynchronously, meaning that participants do the work on their own time as their schedules allow. The class does not meet together at any particular times, although the instructor may set up optional sychronous chat sessions. Instruction includes readings and assignments in one-week segments. Class participation is in an online forum environment. You can register in this course through the first week of instruction.
