Applications Programmer/Analyst - Data & GIS Services (TERM - 2 Positions,

Description:

Working as a member of a small development team, the Programmer Analyst
supports the programming needs of Scholars Portal applications, including but
not limited to ODESI, Scholars GeoPortal, and Dataverse. The Programmer
Analyst develops new code and maintains and modifies existing code, tests,
debugs and documents his/her own code and that of other members of the team.

  
Access to all Scholars Portal services is through Web front ends or APIs.
Working closely with the Systems Support Group, the Programmer Analyst is
responsible for delivering correct, functional, secure, well-documented code.
Working with the Information Design Architect, the Programmer Analyst is
responsible for delivering clean, robust, easy-to-use, and accessible Web
interfaces for use by 450,000 students and faculty in Ontario's 21
universities.

  
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  
Education:

  
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (or an
equivalent combination of education and experience).

  
Experience:

  
A minimum of 4 years' experience with high level programming languages, with
at least one year experience developing web and/or mobile user interfaces or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  
Skills:

  
Programming experience developing Web applications with Java and one or more
of PHP Python and Ruby.

  
Experience with web application frameworks for Java, PHP and Ruby as well as
common Javascript libraries such as JQuery and Bootstrap.

  
Experience with database APIs used with MySQL and PostgreSQL. Experience with
spatial databases desirable.

  
Familiarity with processing XML, using Java, XQuery and XSLT highly desirable.

  
Experience working with geospatial and/or statistical datasets. Familiarity
with commercial and open source GIS and/or statistical software packages.
Experience with developing web mapping applications or data
analysis/visualization tools highly desirable.

  
Familiar with web development frameworks such as Spring and Django.

  
Experience with Apache Hadoop and related Apache projects is desirable.

  
Familiarity with testing frameworks, continuous integration (CI) tools and
other team development support tools.

  
Ability to write clean and well documented code in a collaborative development
team environment and a willingness to troubleshoot and test other people's
code.

  
Other:

  
Strong service focus and desire to produce useful and reliable products to
serve the academic community.

  
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

  
Patience with and tolerance for detailed, sometimes tedious or repetitive
development tasks work.

  
Self-motivated and willing to learn from other team members to share knowledge

Ability to communicate ideas and issues within a small team setting.

  
Notes: Recruiting for two (2) positions for two (2) year TERM contract.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW12 -- $63,014 with an annual step
progression to a maximum of $80,585. Pay scale and job class assignment is
subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance
