**Post Specification**  
Assistant Librarian II (Systems & Digital Services) (Ref. 15081113)

Reporting to the Associate Librarian (Digital & Infrastructural Services), the
appointee is responsible fordeveloping and maintaining
application programs and database systems in support of Library
services,identifying and developing opportunities to
integrate emerging technologies into Library services as
wellas participating actively in planning, managing and
supporting the Library's information systems and
ITinitiatives.

  
**The appointee will be required to:**  
a) serve as the key member of the programme development team and participate
in developing and

maintaining various Library's application programmes, website, discovery
platform and Library

databases, such as Institutional Repository, Institutional Research Archive
and Image Database;

b) propose, develop and implement effective IT solutions, and provide relevant
training;

c) support team members in maintaining and developing the Library's integrated
system and discovery

platform;

d) assist in planning and conducting assessment of the Library's systems, web
services, servers, and

prepare documentation, data analysis and statistical reports;

e) compile statistical reports to support service review, collection
development as well as overall Library

planning and development;

f) perform shift duties, and

g) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her
delegates.

  
**Qualifications**  
Applicants should:

a) have a recognised degree with postgraduate qualification in Library Science
or Information Science;

b) have post-qualification experience, normally five years in systems
development and management or

related responsibilities, preferably in an academic library setting;

c) have demonstrated experience in web-based development and software
integration, for instance using

REST APIs, and JSON or XML for data interoperability;

d) have experience in Microsoft Windows Server, UNIX/Linux, Oracle/SQL Server,
Apache Solr or

Elasticsearch;

e) have working knowledge of programming language, web application
technologies (such as Java, PHP,

Ruby, CSS, Javascript, HTML/XML, etc.), web content development tools and
emerging web

technologies in academic libraries;

f) have demonstrated understanding of client/server environment, and working
knowledge with

integrated library systems as well as related discovery products preferred;

g) have good communication and interpersonal skills, self-motivation and
capability in working

independently and within a team environment; and

h) be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and
Chinese.

  
Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment
will be made on a

fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to
mutual agreement.
