Assistant Director for Digital Scholarship

Penn Libraries seeks an innovative and collaborative information professional
to serve as the Assistant Director for Digital Scholarship within the
Teaching, Research, and Learning (TRL) Directorate. This is a forward-looking,
transformative role for an individual with a passion for range of cutting-edge
activities within digital scholarship, including building new digital
collections, developing services in support of research, and managing staff
and digital projects teams. The Assistant Director for Digital Scholarship
collaborates with colleagues and partners within and beyond Penn to strengthen
local, regional, and national partnerships.

  
The Assistant Director for Digital Scholarship reports to the Director of
Teaching, Research, and Learning Services and is expected to have knowledge
and/or experience in two or more areas of emerging importance for digital
libraries and digital scholarship such as: maps and geographical information;
data and data management services; non-traditional digital library content
(e.g. social media and other ephemeral materials, both digital and digitized);
repository services; scholarly communication; open access publishing
platforms; the integration and interoperability of digital library services
through linked data; the integration of digitized and born-digital materials;
publication and visualization services in digital libraries.

  
The position responsibilities include:

  
Management: Lead a team of professionals who work with faculty and other
campus clients to plan effective, innovative and sustainable digital projects
and research.

  
Outreach: Seek out and develop opportunities for partnerships with faculty and
academic units on campus as well as partnerships with local, regional, and
national organizations with an interest in digital scholarship activities,
platforms, and projects. Maintain knowledge of developments in digital
libraries and digital scholarship including both infrastructure and standards
developments.

  
Platforms: Provide oversight for library-supported researcher platforms.
Employ regular review and evaluation of projects and platforms. Develop and
document new workflows to support innovative scholarship around a variety of
digital content, including traditional library content, born-digital material,
research data and other digital products of scholarship.
