Wesleyan University seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, and visionary leader to serve as its next Caleb T. Winchester University Librarian. Wesleyan has been a leader in curricular innovation since its founding in 1831, and is consistently ranked among the nation’s top liberal arts colleges. Primarily an undergraduate institution, enrolling approximately 2,900 full-time undergraduates, Wesleyan also offers the master of arts in several areas of science and in liberal studies, the master of philosophy in liberal arts and the Ph.D. in six disciplines.

Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, the Caleb T. Winchester University Librarian has primary oversight of the Wesleyan University Library (including the Olin Library and the Science Library). The selected candidate will lead a library staff dedicated to providing exemplary service and to supporting the University’s academic mission.

Wesleyan is a student-centered institution and a close-knit campus community. The University Librarian will provide excellent service to Wesleyan’s academic community, as well as collaborate with senior administrators, faculty, and other departments to ensure that the Wesleyan Library is supporting the institution’s academic mission. The University Librarian will refine and implement a strategic plan to chart the future of the Library, rethink the organizational structure of the Library staff, plan effective usage of space and facilities, collaborate intentionally with Information Technology Services, and integrate the Library more deeply into the Wesleyan community. The University Librarian will collaborate internally, but will also work with consortia and external constituents, building strong, transparent relationships to advance the mission of the Library.

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in library and information science and have a track record of progressive experience and demonstrated success in a research library setting (ideally in an academic setting). S/he will have a proven track record of setting and achieving strategic objectives, experience managing high-performing teams, facility managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, and outstanding verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should have a strong grasp of and experience with existing and developing technology in the library environment. S/he must be a results-driven professional with deep knowledge in the challenges facing academic libraries of today. Above all, the ideal candidate must embody a deep commitment to diversity, an appreciation for liberal education, and support the values and traditions of Wesleyan University.
