The Tri-College Library Consortium (comprised of Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and
Swarthmore College Libraries) seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and
inquisitive Web Developer to join our team and help move the Tri-Co Libraries
forward as a leading academic library consortium. The Library Web Developer
reports to the Tri-College Library Technology Coordinator and is a member of
the Tri-College Library Applications Team. The team is based out of Swarthmore
College and supports and develops the shared applications of Bryn Mawr,
Haverford, and Swarthmore Libraries, with the goal of connecting users to
library content and extending and enhancing library services. This position
affords many opportunities to collaborate with library and IT colleagues from
Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore Colleges. The successful candidate will
work with our team to design, implement, administer, test, and document
features and functionality for LAMP applications, chiefly the catalog
discovery service, to facilitate access to library resources and to support
consortial staff initiatives. S/he will provide leadership by helping guide
the Consortium on investigating, recommending, and implementing new technical
solutions. In addition to web application development
responsibilities, the incumbent will be supported by professional development
resources to grow in other key areas, particularly application environment
optimization. As a result, the successful candidate should have an interest in
implementing lifecycle development processes, recommending strategies for
redundancy, tuning databases, administering version control software and
workflows, and documenting deployment procedures. This is a position with

is excited by new challenges and learning opportunities. Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's Degree in a technology related field, or a Bachelor's
Degree in any field with a minimum two years' experience in evaluating,
developing, and maintaining web applications. Demonstrated experience and
building and developing web applications using PHP, JavaScript, and SQL.
Experience with Linux/Unix environments and related server technologies, such
as Apache HTTP Server. Experience with administering version control software
and workflows, such as Git or Apache Subversion. Preferred: Familiarity with
and demonstrated interest in academic library technologies and discovery
systems. Experience with indexing search platform configuration, such as
Apache Solr. Working knowledge of web development, design, and standards,
including HTML, CSS, responsive design principles and both front-end and back-
end frameworks. Experience with Vagrant or similar technology. Working
knowledge of data encoding standards and translation languages, such as XML,
XSLT, XPath, XQuery, and JSON. Familiarity with authentication and web
security protocols, such as Shibboleth, LDAP, and SSL. Additional programming
language experience with either Python, Java, Perl, or Ruby. This position
requires regular travel to nearby Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, expenses
