“Re-envisioning ‘Technical Services’ to Transform Libraries: Identifying Leadership and Talent Management Practices” will explore how libraries can recruit and cultivate staff who can serve as both leaders and contributors and provide insight into talent management, including identifying and nurturing leaders; succession planning; promoting diversity; and connecting staff with the best training options throughout their careers. Keynote speakers are Keith Webster, dean of university libraries and director of emerging and integrative media initiatives, Carnegie Mellon University, and Jenica Rogers, director of libraries and college archives, Dorf endowed director of applied learning, State University of New York at Potsdam.
Other featured speakers are Meredith A. Taylor, Provost’s Office, UT Austin and co-author of the ARL Spec Kit on Talent Management, who will also lead breakout sessions, and Sylvia Hall-Ellis, adjunct professor at San Jose State University. A trio of case studies to support early, middle and advanced career stages will be offered by Jacob Nadal, ReCAP; Elyssa M. Gould, University of Michigan Law Library; and Angela Kinney, Library of Congress. The Program Committee will report preliminary research results on their survey of talent management attitudes and practices in three types of academic libraries.
