Call for Papers: “Digital Humanities and the Visual”

Special Theme Issue of the Visual Resources Association Bulletin

Guest Editor: John Taormina, Duke University
Expected Date of Publication: December 2016 (Vol. 44, no. 2)

Digital Humanities interprets the cultural and social impact of new media and information technologies—the fundamental components of the new information age—as well as creates and applies these technologies to answer cultural, social, historical, and philological questions, both those traditionally conceived and those only enabled by new technologies.

This special themed issue of the VRA Bulletin on Digital Humanities seeks to highlight the issues surrounding the support, development, dissemination, and preservation of Digital Humanities projects in the arts and humanities. Papers should address the issues surrounding the transformational changes brought about by introducing the concepts surrounding Digital Humanities into the arts and humanities disciplines and, most importantly, how visual resources specialists and librarians work with and support faculty and students at their institutions to develop and implement Digital Humanities tools in the classroom and in research projects in art, art history, architectural history, archaeology, visual studies, and related cultural disciplines.

For the first round of article submissions, please send a one-page abstract to John Taormina, Duke University, at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, by December 15, 2015. Papers on Digital Humanities from the joint ARLIS/NA-VRA conference in Seattle in March 2016 will also be considered and submission of reworked papers is encouraged after the conference.
