Digital Technician
George Eastman House

The George Eastman Museum is seeking candidates for a Digital Technician
position in its Moving Image Department. This is a full time, grant funded
position, with possibility of renewal. The Museum preserves over 28,000 film
titles in all film gauges and a variety of electronic/digital formats. Its
Stills, Posters and Paper Collection contains over four million historic
artifacts of Moving Image culture including posters, production stills,
historical documents, music cue sheets, lobby cards, scripts, pre-cinema
materials, nitrate film frames, audio collections, as well as correspondence
related to filmmakers, producers, and performers. The Digital Technician
reports to the Preservation Manager and supports the Moving Image Department
in implementing its daily activities and special projects involving digital
technologies.

  
Responsibilities:

  * Inspect, inventory and document digital collection items and preparing materials for digitization;
  * Implement and evaluate digital transfers of collection items;
  * Assist with preservation file ingests, scanning, and digital asset management;
  * Assist with documenting policies, procedures and workflows for managing digital collections and communicating policies to staff;
  * Assist with restoration projects involving digital technologies; metadata modeling, and beta-testing systems;
  * Participate in the student activities of the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation, including, but not limited to, supervising projects, teaching and mentoring students, and participating in student field trips;
  * Assist with handling requests from other departments and outside donors and depositors.
Minimum Qualifications:

  * Candidates should possess an advanced degree in Video / Digital / Film, Archive Management or equivalent field, and be fluent in film archiving and curatorial matters.
  * Responsible, knowledgeable, and outgoing individuals with experience in handling archival artifacts and a strong background in Moving Image history;
  * Extremely detail-oriented and have experience with standard computer word processing and database software;
  * Able to work well independently and as part of a team;
  * Familiar with U.S. and international arts/film/cultural heritage;
  * In possession of a valid driving license.
  * Extensive knowledge of conservation and handling requirements for a wide range of film, tape, digital, and paper items.
  * Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  * A working knowledge of Digital Asset Management software, DaVinci software, FinalCut Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Audition, ProTools, Word, Excel and FileMaker Pro programs.
