Description

  
Cornell University Library's (CUL) Acquisitions and E-Resources Licensing
Services (AERLS) within Library Technical Services (LTS) is seeking an
Electronic Resources Librarian. CUL acquires resources in a wide variety of
physical and online formats.

  
Under the general direction of the Director of AERLS, this position works
closely with other staff in the department to perform e-resource license
negotiation, maintain complex vendor accounts, and maintain policies and
procedures related to e-resource and acquisitions work.
Additionally, the position performs daily operations, including management and
development of workflows and services in various areas of acquisitions and
e-resource management, particularly focusing on streaming media, software,
data sets and other emerging and evolving
formats. The Electronic Resources
Librarian works with selectors, other library staff, and vendor contacts on a
daily basis to help effectively manage CUL's growing collections.

  
The Electronic Resources Librarian monitors and participates in external
developments, standards development and changing needs to further CUL's
initiatives. The position is expected to collaborate in CUL partnerships, such
as 2CUL, and plays an active role in professional organizations inside and
outside of the CUL community.

  
  
Duties and Responsibilities

  
Acquisitions and Electronic Resource Licensing

  
 Effectively
collaborates with collection development staff and other library departments
to maintain Cornell's complex on-going electronic and print resource accounts

 Participates in the
creation and maintenance of policies and procedures to support evolving
acquisitions, licensing, and serials management practices

 Works closely with
colleagues on the negotiation and licensing of online resources, executing
licensing agreements with information providers and ensuring that such
agreements comply with established University and Library guidelines

  
  
Emerging Formats Acquisition

  
 Researches and plans
for policy, licensing, workflow, and technological solutions involved in the
acquisition of new formats, such as streaming video, software, multimedia,
datasets, and others

 Actively
participates in solving issues with acquisitions, licensing, access and
discovery & delivery systems, particularly with new and emerging resource
formats

 Collaborates with
staff throughout the University, at partner institutions, and vendors to
simplify and streamline the process of acquiring and providing access to
complex emerging resource types

 Keeps abreast of new
and emerging acquisitions and licensing practices and tools.

  
  
Professional Activities

  
 Monitors and
contributes to the development of local, national, and international policies
and standards

 Actively
participates in professional working groups, task forces, instruction
programs, and committees, including support of system-wide policy development

 Conducts research
and contributes to professional publications and forums especially in areas
related to acquisitions and e-resources

 Maintains strong
working relationship and communicates regularly with staff in other LTS and
CUL departments and divisions

  
  
Qualifications

  
  
 ALA-accredited
M.L.S. or equivalent graduate degree

  
 Knowledge of library
acquisitions and e-resource terminology and tools

  
 Ability to
troubleshoot and research solutions to complex problems

  
 Aptitude and
interest in learning new technologies and standards

  
 Excellent
organizational and project management skills

  
 Strong service
orientation and interest in library users' values and needs

  
 Excellent
communication and analytic skills, including the ability to work well in a
team-based environment with a diverse group

  
 Spirit of adventure

  
  
Preferred Qualifications

  
 One or more years of
experience in library acquisitions, e-resource management, or vendor/library
relations

 Relevant experience
developing and implementing technical solutions in a library setting
