Metadata Archivist

Establish intellectual control of digitized archival records--microfilm,
photographs, and serials from the Young Women's Christian Association of the
USA records. Prepare digital assets for access by conducting quality control
and creating digital object metadata in the digital asset management system.
Review and enhance existing archival metadata in the archival information
management system.

  
Duties and Responsibilities:

  
Metadata: Under the supervision of the Metadata and Technical Services
Archivist, describe digitized archival records using accepted archival and
digital library standards and best practices. Ensure consistency, accuracy,
and completeness of required metadata fields. Review and enhance legacy
archival metadata to complement digital asset metadata.

  
Other: Conduct quality control of digital assets by checking primary quality
control and post-upload indicators, such as orientation, completeness of
image, readability, display, etc. Provide feedback to enhance workflow
efficiencies. Track progress of assigned activities. Participate in shared
decision making for Special Collections. Other duties as assigned.

  
Qualifications:

  
Education/Experience: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program; minimum
2 years of experience in archives and special collections; experience with
archival description and cataloguing standards required; experience with
digital collections preferred; or an equivalent combination of education
and/or experience. Internships will be considered as experience

  
Skills: Strong research, organization, writing and communication skills;
attention to detail; self-motivated, ability to work independently and as part
of a team; familiarity with standard database systems--such as Archivists'
Toolkit, FileMaker Pro--and office software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
knowledge of archival metadata and cataloguing standards and authorities, such
as DACS, EAD, MODS, LCSH, and AAT; aptitude for learning new technologies and
metadata standards.
