Digital Archivist
University of Georgia

The University of Georgia Libraries seeks a Digital Archivist who will be
responsible for working collaboratively with the staff of the Walter J. Brown
Media Archives to manage existing digital holdings, acquire and normalize born
digital content, manage future migration of digital assets, transfer analog
media to digital files as needed, manage and maintain the Collective Access
database, develop, manage and assess digital preservation policies and
procedures. Additionally, the Digital Archivist monitors
and plans for additional digital storage on a regular basis, and is expected
to assist in developing other sources of outside funding for ongoing or new
digital projects. This position reports to the Director of The Walter J. Brown
Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection.

  
The Brown Media Archives is one of the largest electronic media archives in
the country. The Archives includes over 300,000 television
and radio programs, 5 million feet of newsfilm, folk music field tapes, home
movies, Georgia related broadcasting, and large collections related to the
University of Georgia. The Peabody Awards Collection is the
keystone of the collection, containing virtually every entry submitted for
this prestigious award, and constitutes one of the foremost and most diverse
sound and moving images collections in the world. The Brown Media Archives
staff is also responsible for the management and care of the audiovisual
collections associated with the Hargrett Rare Books & Manuscript Library also
housed in the Russell Special Collections Building. To view a full description
