 Senior Software Engineer for Discovery Services

  
The Senior Software Engineer for Discovery Services joins other information
technology staff in contributing to the Library's goal of being a central and
responsive partner in the research, teaching, and learning priorities of the
University of Virginia. The Library is a nationally recognized leader in the
development of digital library technologies, innovative strategies and
approaches.

  
This position creates, enhances, and maintains web application services that
give patrons access to library resources, with an emphasis on Ruby-on-Rails
programming with access to Solr indexes through Blacklight and the Project
Hydra stack.

  
The employee in this position collaborates with team members and other Library
developers to support production services and to engage in long term, highly
complex programming assignments with significant latitude to devise approaches
best suited to project goals.

  
Qualifications

  
Education: Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related discipline.
Demonstrated direct experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  
Required Experience: 4-7 years of demonstrated software design and development
experience.

  
Preferred Experience: Considerable experience developing software for managing
digital assets for a research library or national archive. Web development
(e.g., Ruby-on-Rails). Networked application development (e.g., Java).

  
Salary and Benefits

  
Anticipated Salary: $80,000 - $105,000
