Library Technology Specialist Michigan Technological University Houghton Michigan Technological University's Van Pelt and Opie Library welcomes applications for the position of Library Technology Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide variety of library technologies to provide exceptional service to the various constituents that utilize the library's technology related services. Emphasis is placed on the management, documentation, training, and implementation of the library's various software and hardware systems. **Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)** 1. Support, troubleshoot and maintain library sponsored in-building computing including office staff computers and peripherals, library conference rooms, library instruction rooms and common access technology including a wide variety of graphic reproduction technologies. 2. Train staff and student assistants to provide support for common access technologies (e.g. scanners, printers, study room technology, instructional technology, productivity tools) 3. Assist faculty, staff and graduate students with specialized software (e.g., Google Earth, nVivo, Kurzweil) 4. Analyze user access problems and escalate when appropriate 5. Support technology for library events 6. Document and maintain support contracts and maintenance schedules 7. Maintain inventories of library technology 8. Proactively communicate with campus IT to assess and ensure timely progress toward project goals 9. Document procedures for common access technologies 10. Support installation and upgrades of the library's technology enabled spaces 11. Manage 3D printing station(s) 12. Prepare technology orders 13. Coordinate network activations 14. Provide solutions for digital signage 15. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. Provide leadership to foster a culture of safety; promote safety through actions, communication and training 16. Commit to learning and applying continuous improvement strategies **Required Education (minimum requirements)** ● Two years of information technology experience in areas such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing, and maintaining computer systems and network infrastructure; computer technical support, leading projects, hardware and software knowledge OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job. **Required Experience (minimum requirements)** ● Experience working in a user-centric heterogeneous computer environment ● Experience with Linux, Windows and Mac OSX operating systems ● Experience working in a collaborative environment **Desirable Education and/or Experience** ● Experience working in an academic environment ● Experience working in a fast paced, service-focused environment ● Bachelor's degree ● Experience with library specific software applications **Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)** ● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ● Demonstrated organizational efficiency with the ability to work independently ● Demonstrated ability and willingness to work flexible hours ● Commitment to continued education and training ● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ● Demonstrated ability to diagnose technical problems and apply standard solutions ● Demonstrated ability to contact vendors for technical solutions ● Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective documentation ● Commitment to privacy and security of patron and staff related information ● Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff ● Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment Michigan Technological University is an Equal Opportunity Educational Institution/Equal Opportunity Employer, which includes providing equal opportunity for protected veterans and individuals with disability.
