Project Overview The National Digital Stewardship Residency (NDSR) program fosters digital information expertise through meaningful hands on experiences. The mission of the NDSR is to build a dedicated community of professionals who will advance our nation's capabilities in managing, preserving, and making accessible the digital record of human achievement. The first NDSR program launched at the Library of Congress in 2013. NDSR programs have been hosted in New York, Boston, and this summer a nation-wide NDSR program for public broadcasting archives will begin. In September 2016, NDSR Art will promote the advancement of digital stewardship skills in art information through a nationally dispersed cohort of eight residents over the course of two years. NDSR Art supports art librarians and visual resource curators in their endeavor to provide long-term, durable access to born digital works of art and publications, images, institutional repositories, and interactive technologies. NDSR Art Curriculum NDSR Art enhances skills to ensure quality access, presentation, and preservation of our digital cultural heritage for 21st century users and future generations. NDSR Art residents and mentors will be trained in the latest forms of digital preservation, such as digital forensics, emulation, and displaying and accessing complex digital art objects in various file formats. NDSR Art enhances access to digital scholarship in areas such as electronic publications, complex media and images, and provenance through the development of sound institutional repositories and work flows. The NSDR Arts curriculum addresses digital rights management, copyright, and fair use within the context of cultural heritage institutions. The NDSR Art curriculum will bring together resources from the Library of Congress’s Digital Preservation Outreach and Education (DPOE) program, past NDSR curricula, and the ARLIS/NA community. An ARLIS/NA NSDR Art Curriculum Development Task force will plan instructions for a four-day immersion training course in August and create online training modules to augment skills throughout year-long residencies. Art information training modules will be shared through the NDSR Art residency program, ARLIS/NA’s Learning Portal, and in future DPOE training platforms.
