Dear all

As you all know the socio-technical environment within which libraries of
developing countries operate is changing more rapidly than libraries are
changing to meet it.

Indian libraries of any type or size are enthusiastic users of open source
software and open standards and zealous promoter of Open Access movement.

Indian libraries are now feeling the need of library discovery systems both
for bibliographic domain and other non-bibliographic domains like cultural
and heritage objects, museum and monument objects etc. The need of
single-windows search interface for a wide range of library resources in
order to save users in running from post to pillar is another compulsion in
Indian libraries where automated library systems and digital library
systems are often two separate entities.

In view of the foregoing, Annals of Library and Information Studies (, an open access Indian LIS
journal publishing since 1954, has taken an initiative to publish one
special issue (December 2016 issue) of ALIS on Library Discovery Systems
discovery to deliberate different aspects of resource discovery systems in
general and the open source solution VuFind in particular.

As guest editor of the special issue on Library Discovery System of ALIS, I
would like to request you all to contribute paper/short communication on
aspects of library discovery systems as mentioned in CFP available from

As a note to this CFP. I would also like to mention that we are fortunate
enough to have Demian Katz, the original developer of VuFind and a stalwart
in the domain of library discovery systems as advisor in shaping this
special issue.

The submission dateline is approaching quickly (August 31, 2016) and you
are requested to act accordingly.

Thanks and regards
