The Smithsonian Libraries seeks a Data Developer (IT
Specialist) is responsible for technical planning, implementation, and
maintenance of applications and processes to facilitate use and re-purposing
of data on various platforms in the Libraries' digital ecosystem. The Data
Developer is highly proficient in data and metadata transformation and
interoperability and in managing database-driven systems.

  
**ABOUT THE SMITHSONIAN LIBRARIES**  
  
At the center of research across the Smithsonian are the specialized branches
and librarians of the Smithsonian Libraries. The collections and staff of the
Libraries play a key role in helping the Smithsonian's research and curatorial
staff make sense of the museums' almost innumerable, often unique, objects and
their cultural and historical contexts. The Smithsonian Libraries are a hidden
national treasure, where experts come to test and expand knowledge and where
America and the world can turn for authentic answers.

  
The Data Developer is part of the Web Services department in the Digital
Projects and Initiatives Division of the Libraries and will report to the Head
of Web Services.

  
**DUTIES**  
  
* Responsible for planning and implementing data interoperability and management standards and enabling data migrations between library systems.  
  
* Develops connections among digital content management system (CMS), Smithsonian enterprise information systems, and other shared systems and data sources using linked data, application programming interfaces (APIs), and other web services  
  
* Researches existing and emerging technologies to determine appropriate methods of content delivery and presentation to enhance public access and to deepen engagement with the Libraries' collections and services.  
  
* Works closely with colleagues from other Institutional Departments/Units, outside libraries, museums, federal agencies, or cultural organizations to discuss issues and gain insight into optimal solutions for applications and maintenance.
