I am looking for a front-end developer to join my team at the Getty Research Institute. We are working on some cool projects, so I think this job would be of great interest to many code4libbers. The position is currently funded by a couple of projects, so I can only advertise it as a 2-year position. But the plan is to extend the contract with new projects, of which we have a never-ending queue. The two main projects this position will be focused on are the following: 1. A new UI for browsing and searching the archives. We are currently building a pipeline to merge archival collection metadata in EAD files with digital item metadata in our METS files to produce IIIF collections and manifests. The goal is to create a new UI that puts digital items in context with the non-digitized components of our archives and special collections. No more siloed search interfaces for just digitized items. 2. Ruscha Streets of LA project. The GRI has the archives of Ed Ruscha, who spent the past 40 years photographing the entire length of several of Los Angeles's main boulevards, such as Sunset, Hollywood, Melrose, etc. He was essentially doing Google Street View decades before Google even existed. He photographed each street multiple times over the decades. We intend to digitize the entire archive so that researchers and the general public can have access to this amazing trove of historical data. We also intend to build a slick UI (possibly building off the work of the project above) for browsing the very large number of images and for comparing sites across time. If time permits, we may also build an augmented reality mobile application. Experience with IIIF and/or GIS development is a big plus. Our current team is comprised of 5 engineers and 1 UX designer (3 female, 3 male), including myself.
