Web Services Librarian at ASU Library

The Arizona State University Library seeks a knowledgeable, creative, and user-oriented colleague for the position of Web Services Librarian.

The Web Services Librarian is charged with leadership, project management, and technological work related to the planning, development, coordination, maintenance, and evaluation of the Library's web site and other major online user interfaces. In addition to monitoring and promoting new features and services related to the Library's web presence, the Web Services Librarian will manage web projects within the Discovery Services Team. The Web Services Librarian will participate in regular committee meetings throughout the year to facilitate communication, content creation, and coordination of web-related needs and functions. This position may also be assigned to direct the work of temporary or part-time employees, student assistants, and interns, when the work is related to special projects or tasks falling primarily in the Discovery Services functional area. Reports to the Director of Discovery Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as the primary point of contact, project manager, and coordinator for the Library's web presence, and is responsible for resolving issues as well as identifying, developing, and implementing enhancements; provides leadership and expertise to help the Library manage its web-based applications and tools that enhance access to services, collections, and instructional content for ASU students, faculty, and staff; provides leadership in implementing effective communication in a digital environment; participates in processes related to web design and development, information architecture, and content creation and maintenance; works with Discovery Services Team to engage in web site and web applications development and systems management work with Drupal and other systems, as appropriate; leads and/or participates in processes that will assess user requirements, needs, and satisfaction levels, in order to assure that the Library's web site and applications are understandable, usable, and effective for the Library's primary constituents; maintains currency with web technologies, software, tools, and solutions and participates in evaluation, assessment, and training efforts; and leads and/or participates on the Web Services Advisory Committee, which serves as a cross-unit advisory group to the Discovery Services Team on matters related to strategic goals, initiatives, design, content, and usability.

Qualifications:

Required:

Master's degree in Library Information Science/Studies from an ALA-accredited institution
General web design and development experience
Knowledge of usability design and assessment
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Broad knowledge of a wide range of IT issues (e.g., accessibility, security), Web development methods, requirements, and procedures
Strong interest in emerging technologies, library technology trends, general trends in librarianship and higher education that affect library technology

Preferred:

Knowledge of responsive web design
Knowledge of current web accessibility standards and how these standards affect web design and user experience
Working knowledge of Drupal
Strong project management experience
Knowledge of at least one object-oriented programming language
Experience working with multiple library applications and content management systems
Demonstrable experience with APIs and mobile technologies
Experience in information architecture, taxonomy/ontology creation, and writing of content for the web
Knowledge of SQL and database-driven web sites and applications
Initiative, flexibility, organization, precision, and excellent problem solving skills
Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Experience working within Unix/Linux variant server environments with basic system administration utilities
