Program Announcement: ALCTS Role for Professional Librarian in Technical
Services Interest Group Session in Chicago


*Title: Hiring Metadata Professionals 2017: Fresh Perspectives from Library
Managers.*

Time: Saturday June 24 10:30am - 11:30am

Location: McCormick Place S102



Looking for an opportunity to become a metadata professionals? Two
respectful library managers will give you some insights from the employers.
In this session, they are going to address some hot topics including

·         What qualities they look for in candidates?

·         Is the cover letter dead or of central importance?

·         What information in resumes is useful?

·         Sample interview questions.

Gwen Gregory, Head of Resource Acquisition and Management at University of
Illinois at Chicago

Jee Davis, Associate University Librarian for Collections at Villanova
University


Audience:

The session is geared towards the full range of ALA attendees, from library
school students to late-career metadata professionals,  including the
perspective of “traditional cataloger” and/or “metadata specialist” from a
variety of institutions.



Takeaway:

A PDF or equivalent will be posted after session with list of skill sets,
resume pointers, sample interview questions, etc.—something attendees to
use back at home.
