Howard-Tilton Memorial Library invites applications for the position of Head of Library Information Technology. The library seeks to build its professional staff by recruiting talented, energetic librarians interested in shaping the future of Tulane University and New Orleans.

Position Summary


The Head of Library Information Technology is an innovative and imaginative professional overseeing a talented staff of research library information technology specialists.  S/he oversees software for the integrated library system (currently Ex Libris Voyager), discovery software (currently Ex Libris Primo), digital repositories (currently Islandora and ArchivesSpace), and interlibrary loan services (currently ILLiad).  S/he will also provide leadership and take responsibility for the functioning and maintenance of the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library's web site, including subordinate unit pages.  In conjunction with the Head of Digital Initiatives, s/he will also support the Director of User Services and Library IT in developing or modifying new and existing infrastructure to support emerging services like research data management, digital scholarship, and digital publishing.  This position collaborates closely with staff in Tulane University's campus information technology group (Technology Services) as well as the library's research support and outreach librarians to integrate appropriate technology into library and academic support services.  The position will take a leading role in projects or teams that improve systems and services for Tulane students and faculty.  The incumbent will also oversee purchasing, deploying, recycling, and maintaining accurate inventory for library staff computer hardware and for software licensing.

Qualifications

Required
A graduate degree in computer science, library and information science, or other relevant information technology field at the time of hire, or another graduate degree with 5-7 years of directly relevant technology management experience.  Demonstrated programming skills at an intermediate or advanced level in two or more commonly-used languages.  Strong analytical and written/verbal communication skills.  Demonstrated knowledge of technology trends and challenges in higher education, research universities, and libraries.  Knowledge of and experience with computer software and hardware support.    Demonstrated experience with managing projects and meeting deadlines.   Strong service orientation.  Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.  Ability to direct, mentor, and grow technology professionals successfully.  Ability to function fully and competently at technology competency Levels I, II and III outlined in HTML Core Technology Competencies for Employees. Preferred:
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent.  Three or more years of academic or research library experience.  Experience with database construction and queries.  Experience with Ex Libris Voyager, SFX, Primo and ILLiad.



Salary/Benefits
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Librarians are academic appointees; librarians do not have tenure or faculty rank, but in other respects receive the benefits of faculty members.
