Dear NDSA friends —

For the past two years, the Digital Library Federation has extended our offer of childcare assistance, as far as possible, to Digital Preservation conference registrants alongside DLF Forum attendees. We’d like to be able to keep that up and even expand the program — so I’m sharing our “Giving Tuesday” appeal with you, as well!

Thanks for considering this, among all the other worthy causes competing for your attention today. — Bethany

This #GivingTuesday, DLF is asking for your help.

As part of a larger effort to make our annual meetings as welcoming and accessible as possible, for the past three years we have offered quality, subsidized childcare services right in the DLF Forum conference hotel. This is important—even game-changing<https://twitter.com/wribrarian/status/923223423689609218> for some parents and caregivers—who would otherwise not be able to attend and contribute their insights and expertise, for the benefit of all.

But the donations that started our Child Care Fund are nearly depleted. We want to continue providing free or low-cost child care at Digital Library Federation events.

  * Childcare responsibilities disproportionately impact women<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motherhood_penalty>, who face other structural hurdles in libtech fields.
  * Your donation is meaningful and has a direct impact on the growth and success of the DLF community, by ensuring that caregiver status is not a barrier to participation.
  * DLF events are break-even at best, so your support is critical.

I remember missing out on opportunities and important conversations as a young mother. Just knowing that my conference communities were aware and working on the issue would have mattered<https://twitter.com/jmburroughs/status/795650562381451265> to me. You can make a difference for your colleagues. Support the DLF Child Care Fund with a one-time or recurring donation.

Please take a moment to give<https://secure.qgiv.com/for/dlfcf>.

And even if that's not possible for you, we hope you will help us amplify and share this message.

With deep thanks,
