NONCONFIDENTIAL // EXTERNAL

Hello,

As we head into the new year I wanted to provide NDSA-ALL with an update on the activities of the NDSA S&P Interest Group. First up, here are the notes from our last meeting (Nov 11, 2017):

Next, two important items:

·         Our next meeting is this coming Monday, December 18th at 1:00 pm EST. Here is the agenda: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eeC8Hfs7qShdUsqOAXE8esUUxpiIddvDvXlndkfIdE0/edit

·         Our January 15th (MLK Day) and February 19th (Presidents Day) meetings are cancelled. May be rescheduled.

For those who did not make our last call, we spent some time reflecting on the year and gave special consideration to the feedback that we received from DigiPres. What we have decided to do is follow suit with the Infrastructure and Content Interest Groups and in trying out some changes in 2018 that are aimed at providing more opportunities for member participation.

Specifically, in 2018 we will be asking for volunteers to assist with coordinating calls on particular topics, in both an effort to divvy up the workload and also to bring new voices to the S&P stage. This might include inviting an expert or panel to address a particular topic; structuring conversation around a burning question, a research paper or recent report; proposing an activity or thought experiment – or something else entirely! In short, the agenda is yours.

If you already have some ideas percolating, take a look at our planning template and at the bottom you will find a place to add to potential topics. If you’d like, put your name down if you are willing to help me in coordinating for that month.

Once we settle on a date for our 2018 Planning Meeting, I’ll send out another update. In the meantime, we’ll get some ideas flowing in our December meeting. When the schedule is finalized, we’ll publish it to the NDSA S&P page so that you all know what is coming!

Finally, please join me in thanking Meg Phillips for her work supporting the NDSA S&P Interest Group. Meg has done a fantastic job and will be rotating off in 2018. Thanks again, Meg!

If you are interested in co-chairing the S&P Interest Group, don’t hesitate to contact me. It’s a great opportunity to work with some really amazing people, and there is certainly a lot of work to be done.

Best,

-Aaron
