Is This Permanence: Preservation of Born-digital Artists’ Archives is a one-day symposium that explores current practices, challenges, and solutions for the long term stewardship of artists’ archives, which may contain all manner of digital and analog media. These kinds of hybrid collections pose ever-developing challenges for artists, museums, and archivists. How can archivists and museums best support artists’ use of born-digital methods in their own practice, and how should we adapt existing archival strategies for the digital age in a way that promotes effective stewardship and access for future generations?

Join us for a day of discussion on May 11, including a keynote lecture from Jon Ippolito, Professor of New Media and Director of the Digital Curation graduate program at the University of Maine.

With presentations from:

Clifford Allen & Deb Verhoff, New York University and Watermill Center, Robert Wilson Archives
John Bell, Dartmouth College
Deena Engel & Glenn Wharton, New York University
Sara England & Mikhel Proulx, Concordia University
Josh Franco & Hilary Price, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Laura Molloy, University of Oxford
Colin Post, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Farris Wahbeh, Whitney Museum of American Art

We look forward to seeing you in May!
