Metadata and Resource Discovery Librarian - 12-Month, Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Librarian 

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Libraries is seeking applications for a Metadata and Resource Discovery Librarian to provide strategic direction and innovative leadership on metadata practices for digital and physical assets. The Metadata and Resource Discovery Librarian is a key member of the Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services team, which includes acquisitions, cataloging, government documents, and electronic resource management. This position will give the selected candidate the opportunity to:

CREATE—The Metadata and Resource Discovery Librarian will be responsible for the creation of original catalog records for our unique materials regardless of format or language. The position will also assist in the creation of metadata policies and procedures used within the libraries. There will also be opportunities to create documentation to assist researchers on how to organize and describe their data as well as make it discoverable to other researchers. 

LEAD--The Metadata and Resource Discovery Librarian will track developments in metadata schemas and will lead the ongoing development of metadata standards and best practices within the Libraries. The incumbent will also provide leadership as we grow our services for the larger GVSU community in the area of metadata support for faculty, staff, and student researchers. Additionally, as a faculty position there will be opportunities to provide leadership on Library and University committees. 

COLLABORATE--The Metadata and Resource Discovery Librarian will work closely with the Systems and Technology Team, the Collections & Scholarly Communications Team, and the Special Collections and University Archives to ensure our collections are accessible. This position will provide opportunities to work with faculty, staff, and students across the GVSU Libraries and the University. Current partnerships include the Women’s Center, the LGBT Resource Center, the Office of Student Life, and the Faculty Teaching and Learning Center. Qualifications

Required:

·         Master's Degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA

·         Experience with metadata and cataloging management systems, such as OCLC Connexion

·         Demonstrated experience with MARC and Dublin Core

·         Knowledge of PREMIS and EAD

·         Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as a focus on user needs and experience

·         Strong interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect

·         Ability to communicate complex ideas in a simplified way.

Preferred:

·         Experience in an academic library or research environment

·         Knowledge of linked data, semantic web applications, ontologies, and RDF

·         Experience with migrating and remediating legacy metadata

·         Experience working with archival and/or born-digital collections

·         Ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences
